The mission of generous hearts: serving the elderly for 180 years

The Project
Together to support the Culture of Life
The Little Sisters of the Poor assist the needy elderly and offer them loving care in independently managed residences. Day after day, the Little Sisters care for the needy elderly with respect for the sacredness of human life and the uniqueness of each person, offering material and spiritual assistance to accompany them through the most delicate stage of life.
Their history stems from the charitable work of St. Jeanne Jugan, foundress of the congregation, who traveled the streets of Brittany collecting money and gifts in kind for her poor. Today, the Little Sisters are recognized by their van in which they visit businesses and markets, asking generous hearts for food and other goods to help defray operating expenses. On weekends they visit local parishes to ask for help, plan letter mailings and organize fundraising events to benefit homes for their elderly.

St. Jeanne Jugan, with her quest basket, demonstrated that every gift, large or small, can make a difference in the lives of the elderly poor. Even today, your contribution makes it possible to keep alive the mission of love and service of the Little Sisters’ Home in Florence.
